By Margaret McPhail
In the before, as retired people, we had spontaneity we had worked for decades to earn —
We could? Perhaps?
Yes, let’s do that!
Let’s go there?
There’s this film at the Tyneside/exhibition at the Side/new play at Live
We could have lunch there?
We’ll get shopping on the way home
After we’ve dropped in at the library, OK?
Let’s invite the family for a meal?
In the now, we have to book slots —
For shopping deliveries
For visiting Gibside
For visiting Beamish Museum
Our life is small and controlled.
In the future, we don’t know.
